Check this out. I've heard Bob's a fan (hey, nothing wrong with it - I am too) but I think this has to be a joke of some kind.

Dave, I came here to see if it was true too.

I can't really believe it and haven't been able to confirm it anywhere...still, just think how good the music on Nitro would be.

I too am a big wrestling fan and I find it a little hard to believe that Russo and Ferrera would have a musician (even if he is the musical genuis that he is) booking Nitro. Even if it were true that he did a Nitro or two, that stuff is going to be ancient history once Russo and Ferrera start!

Following up:

It was reported on 1wrestling.com that Bob has indeed joined the WCW creative team. Wow! I knew Bob was a fan, but I had no idea he wanted to work in the business. I hope he writes a bunch of entrance music for the wrestlers - it'll be worth watching Nitro just to hear it!

Yes, this is true - it is in this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly (the power issue) in the music section. Love Bob, but I think I will wait for the soundtrack rather than watch - should be good - throbbing walls of sonic noise and faked violence - wonderful wonderful.

I stand corrected. He is in fact one of the "creative team" in back and is contributing. Congrats to Bob!!

no one seems to have noted that the most wacked out thing about all of this is that , technically, bob has now collaborated with the insane clown posse. the apocalypse cannot be far off...

In answer to a question further up the thread: Nitro is WCW's Monday night wrestlnig program which airs on TNT from 8-11pm ET/PT

If you look closely at bob's shirt on the eight miles high album, it says NWA or AWA or some other old wrestling association.

The Monday, November 22 business section of the NYTimes has a lengthy piece featuring professional wrestling creative team: Bob appears, identified as a director, in photo accompanying the piece but is not mentioned in article text (this photo is not included in version of article posted on the Web).

Yep, the same pic also appeared in Santa Rosa's Press Democrat, my local paper. Too cool!

So, is Bob's music going to be on Nitro every Monday, or was this a one-time deal?

I'm not a big WCW nor WWF fan, but it's funny when I do watch for awhile. Much more entertaining than Darma & Greg.

Also, anyone have any idea what Bob's going to do now that he's left Ryko?

A friend of mine went to his concert in Chicago (Metro) over Labor Day and said he was doing more Megamanic sampling type stuff that wasn't vintage Bob, and wasn't very good. Hopefully, this was a joke or a phase.

It would be like when U2 (not that their as good as Bob) went away from their trademarks of Bono's voice and The Edge's riffs into techno crap.

Can't blame anyone for wanting to do whats fun, but...

I saw him in Chicago and he did in fact have 5 new songs that were very techno/industrial-like with a Bob twist. Some guy in the audience yelled out something to the effect of "what's with this crap?" To which Bob retorted "**** YOU!!" and "If you don't like this stuff, don't get the new record, because this is where it's heading...You have to look forward, can't live in the past." Don't be immediately turned off by all of the electronic buzz about his new stuff...You have to hear it and then you'll realize it's still Bob, just with a different twist!! TRUST ME!!!

All times are ET (US)
